Stalking is a complex and multiply-determined behaviour that can be difficult to assess and challenging to treat. This half-day workshop is designed to give clinicians practical, evidence-based advice about the assessment and management of stalkers.

    Stalking is a complex and multiply-determined behaviour that can be difficult to assess and challenging to treat. This half-day workshop is designed to give clinicians practical, evidence-based advice about the assessment and management of stalkers.

    Wat kun je verwachten?

    An overview of relevant research will be provided, before practical focus and discussion of assessment, risk assessment and treatment issues.

    Using a detailed case study as a guide, participants will learn a framework for assessing and formulating stalking behaviour. Content will include recognizing common motivations for stalking, understanding the contributing role of psychopathology, conducting risk assessments with stalkers, and guidance on interviewing approaches.

    A framework for treating stalkers will be presented and techniques for addressing treatment needs specific to different stalking motivations and contexts will be outlined.

    Reflection moment including drink and a Dutch snack.

    Wat leer je?

      At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will be able to:
      - Recognize the type of stalking episode they are assessing, and assess factors that are likely to be relevant to the stalking behaviour
      - Apply a model for formulating stalking behavior that can guide treatment and management of the stalker
      - Identify potential responsivity issues that may arise, and develop a treatment plan for reducing the risk of future stalking

    dr. Troy McEwan

    Dr. Troy McEwan is a clinical and forensic psychologist working in Forensicare’s Problem Behaviour Program, and a Research Fellow at the Centre for Forensic Behavioural Science, Monash University. She has published extensively on risk assessment of stalkers and is currently leading an Australian Research Council funded clinical trial of the SRP and an associated psychological treatment program for stalkers. In addition to clinical work, she lectures in undergraduate and postgraduate courses at Monash University and provides training in stalking and threat management to external services. Her research interests include stalking, arson and threat assessment.Lees meer
