  • Inhoud

Games For the Withdrawn or Passive Child
This child typically benefits from activities that do not require overt cooperation: Learn activities like:
    • The Looking Game
    • Stick Out One Foot
    • Feather Dartboard
    For the Hyperactive Child
A child who is running around the room, switching quickly from activity to activity, or trying to rummage through your supplies, is a child who needs regulation. It is easy to see that this child is in sympathetic mode. Start regulating by matching their energy and joining in their behavior in some way, but also organizing their bodily movements as you join them. Other activities that involve body movement or that combine regulating between stopping and starting, or that alternate between slow and fast movements will help harness the child’s energy and shift it from chaotic to flowing and cooperative. You will learn games like:
    • The Jumping Game
    • Atlas Game
    • The Giant Awakens
    • The Shakes: Sock Grab
    • Heavy Work
    For the Uncooperative Child
A child who is oppositional or controlling is often a child who is filled with shame. Many times, they have the self-image that they are bad, and so they manifest this behavior of being uncooperative and negative so as to at least have a bit of sense of control about when and how that sense of badness will be shown. These are children who are also very sensitive to making mistakes and being called out or embarrassed. With these children, any activity can trigger their shame, so rather than thinking about ideal activities, it’s better to focus more on how to respond to their needs:
    • How to work with oppositionality
    • How to avoid power struggles
    • How to end games well
    • Knowing when to let child take a break
    • Helping child talk about their feelings of resistance or anger

“Dafna Lender’s framework, integrative attachment family therapy (IAFT), uses the power of neuroplasticity to provide parents and children with new experiences of safety and connection that shift trauma-informed relationships. It offers a powerful mental health intervention that can help families to heal. If parents and therapists follow Dafna’s guidance, they can make significant progress in reducing attachment trauma in future generations.”
-Bessel van der Kolk, MD, #1 New York Times best-selling author of The Body Keeps the Score

“Integrative Attachment Family Therapy is a child-focused, multidimensional framework on the vanguard of treatments that heal and strengthen attachment issues in the parent-child relationship. With clear, accessible language and illustrative case examples, Dafna Lender shows how activities based on somatic practices can intervene in problem behaviors in children and in parents. The result is a comprehensive book that will benefit all mental health care professionals who strive to alleviate children’s pain and reconstruct family functioning. “
-Peter A. Levine, PhD, best-selling author of Waking the Tiger: Healing Trauma and Trauma Through a Child’s Eyes: Awakening the Ordinary Miracle of Healing

“Dafna Lender presents an integrated therapeutic approach, IAFT, as an accessible, intuitive, optimistic, and compassionate strategy to strengthen the parent-child relationship. The product of this integration is a transformative therapeutic strategy that leverages the importance of both child and parent feeling safe enough to trust each other. Through clinical examples, we observe how this new felt sense of safety enables both the parent and child to become more accurate and respectful witnesses, a process that evolves into the parent-child co-regulation becoming more symmetrical and imbued with the resilience necessary to process potentially disruptive challenges that may confront either the child or the parent.”
-Stephen Porges, PhD, author of The Polyvagal Theory and Clinical Applications of the Polyvagal Theory

    Dafna's addition about her trainings
In addition to the core training curriculum, I focus on the non-specifics of being a therapeutic presence, in other words, what YOU do to make your client feel safe, connected, seen and invigorated. You will learn experiential exercises that focus on micro-behaviors that promote a sense of trust and safety.

My area of specialty includes working with very difficult clients! They won't just sit there and cooperate with your questions.  I will show you how you can still make therapeutic progress. I have plenty of videos of my own clinical cases to show to really illustrate the How-to’s of DDP.My teaching style is physical and dynamic. I will have you up and moving about, playing and interacting in small groups with your colleagues. You don’t have to worry about your feet falling asleep from sitting too long in my training!
